SIOUXSIE’S MANTARAY album due for reissue

Siouxsie Sioux’s 2007 debut solo album Mantaray is to be reissued this month. The new version of the album accompanies Siouxsie’s first UK dates in ten years (and her first in Europe and the US since 2008).

The album arrived four years after the final album of the Creatures, Hái!. After her first solo tour in 2004, Siouxsie wanted to collaborate with other musicians. She met Steve Evans and Charlie Jones, who both arranged the songs and produced the album. Upon release, Mantaray was well received by critics, with praise focused on Siouxsie’s voice and the different compositional styles. Mantaray saw Siouxsie revel in a sense of freedom, producing something much more expansive than her previous work.

The first single from the album, the mesmersing ‘Into A Swan’ featured Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy playing darbuka. A 12-inch single edition also featured remixes by Andrew Weatherall and Mekon. Discussing the song, Siouxsie said it was about “Recognizing that feeling that I suppose gets you from I guess adolescent when you get your first feeling of confidence of stepping out on your own and I think it is just getting that confidence to move forwards and continue”.

Mantaray has been remastered and cut at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. The album is also being released on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 2007 and also features new artwork.

Siouxsie Sioux has released 16 critically acclaimed studio albums with Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures and her solo debut, Mantaray. Siouxsie’s last solo music was ‘Love Crime’ a track written and recorded for the finale of the lauded TV series Hannibal.

Mantaray is released 14 July, including a red vinyl edition and mini LP CD edition.
